Priorytet w działalności stowarzyszenia stanowi prowadzenie Społecznego Schroniska dla Zwierząt im. św. Franciszka z Asyżu w Rudzie Śląskiej, które istnieje od 1996 roku. Schronisko, w którym zamieszkuje ponad 150 zwierząt, utrzymuje się głównie dzięki pomocy sponsorów, tj. firm oraz osób prywatnych, wspomagających materialnie naszą działalność. Oprócz swej podstawowej funkcji, którą stanowi bezpośrednia pomoc bezdomnym zwierzętom, prowadzimy również działalność edukacyjną w szkołach i placówkach oświatowych pod hasłem „Odpowiedzialna przyjaźń”.
Stowarzyszenie opiera swoją działalność na społecznej pracy swoich członków oraz wolontariuszy. TOZ „FAUNA” ogarnia zasięgiem swojej działalności nie tylko Rudę Śląską, ale również kilka miast ościennych, służąc pomocą w rozwiązywaniu problemu bezdomności zwierząt oraz prowadząc edukację humanitarną. TOZ „FAUNA”, a w szczególności Schronisko współpracuje z następującymi miastami: Ruda Śląska, oraz miastami Powiatu Mikołowskiego.
