Schronisko zostało wybudowane i sfinansowane przez Urząd Miasta Lublina w 2007 r.
Schronisko zapewnia opiekę weterynaryjną i bytową przywiezionym tu zwierzętom. Trafiają tu zwierzęta z wypadków komunikacyjnych, chore, wynędzniałe, będące ofiarami ludzkiej przemocy, obojętności i bezmyślności. Schronisko we współpracy ze Strażą Miejską zajmuje się odławianiem zwierząt zgłoszonych przez mieszkańców Lublina. Wierzymy, że każde przywiezione tu zwierzę będzie u nas przebywało tylko chwilowo. Dlatego jesteśmy zainteresowani prowadzeniem działalności promocyjnej i edukacyjnej ukierunkowanej na formowanie pozytywnych postaw wobec adopcji z jednoczesnym zrozumieniem zasad mądrej adopcji. Zależy nam na tym, żeby raz skrzywdzone zwierzęta, nie zostały pozostawione po raz kolejny. Zasady mądrej adopcji umieściliśmy na naszej stronie internetowej (www.schronisko-zwierzaki.lublin.pl).
