Schronisko powstało w 2002 roku. Zostało założone przez Towarzystwo Opieki nad Zwierzętami .
Schronisko utrzymuje się z pieniędzy przekazanych z następujących gmin: Jarocin, Żerków, Jaraczewo, Pogorzela, Pępowo, a także od prywatnych sponsorów.
Każdy zwierzak jest zaszczepiony i odrobaczany co kwartał a także zachipowany.
